Aromatherapy
Candles
The days of
plain white utility candles are gone forever. Today's candles
are not only useful, but very decorative and fragrant too.
Aromatherapy candles can be burnt in the home to help reduce
stress, or to help you concentrate, or to help you relax after
a hard day at work, depending on the essential oil used in
the making of the candle. Aromatherapy candles are not
just to provide a pleasant odour or mask an unpleasant
one! The scents available these days are quite wonderful, and I
can recommend theseAromatherapy
Candles for the aroma, and for the length
of burning time.
Using
Aromatherapy Candles To Set The Mood
It is
easy to create a different atmosphere for a room, just by
placing there an aromatherapy candle, or two or three. Or you
can use scented candles to transport you back in time to some
childhood memory of that scent. It is an inexpensive way to
change your surroundings, and how you feel about them, as
candles are very reasonably priced.
When you light an aromatherapy
candle, it slowly releases some of the essential oils in the
candle into the air, and as a result these oils enter the body
when you breathe, and are carried through the body and the
brain in the bloodstream. Aromatherapy candles have healing
benefits, and the body reacts to these in a positive way. The
reaction will probably not be very strong, but you can notice a
change, perhaps becoming more relaxed as the candles
burn.
You can
use aromatherapy candles to set the right mood for an evening,
or a day, but you obviously need to select the right candle for
each particular situation. You also need to make sure that the
candles are not just scented candles. You need them to be
aromatherapy candles containing pure essential oils, as these
will give you the most benefit.
If you
are feeling lethargic, but have a lot to do still, then you may
want to consider lighting an energizing aromatherapy candle.
These kinds of invigorating candles generally contain some
essential oils like mint and citrus oils. These will help to
give you more energy, as will oils such as cedar, rosemary,
cinnamon, vanilla, and geranium.
For relaxation using aromatherapy
oils, consider using the essential oils of lavender, chamomile,
geranium and rose, and neroli (from the flowers of bitter
orange trees). Using any of these aromatherapy essential oils
will help you to just kick back and relax. They will help you
de-stress at the end of the day.
Now there
are times when we absolutely need to concentrate, and the
aromatherapy essential oils to use then are lemon, orange and
grapefruit, along with lemon grass and bergamot
oils.
For that
quiet evening at home, when you are making a special effort for
all to go well, you may prepare the perfect meal, decorate the
room with flowers and candles, then you will want to use
aromatherapy candles that are known for their sensual essential
oils, namely vanilla, rose and sandalwood or clary
sage.
The
number of candles you light is entirely up to you, of course,
but don't over do a good thing, and don't mix the different
aromas from different candles, as you may very well be sending
mixed messages! So, don't light a candle that helps you relax
along with a candle that will invigorate you and make you
active again. This is easy enough when the candles are wrapped
and you can see what they contain, but once you have lit the
candle a few times, will you still remember?
